August 12 is the peak night of the Perseid Meteor Shower!
We will begin inside the nature center at 6:30 pm
by listening to and learning the calls of our summer night insects. Then we’ll go
outside and identify the crickets and katydids of Catoctin Creek Nature Center.
· Learn about the appearance of 6 different crickets and katydids
· Learn where different crickets and katydids live
· Learn to identify crickets and katydids by their calls
At 8:30, we will return to the nature center to
hear a short talk by Dr. Nair, an amateur astronomer from Tri-State Astronomy
Club. He will discuss the summer
constellations and the Perseids meteor shower.
At nightfall, if the weather allows, we will go outside to view the
night sky through telescopes. We will
look at stars, planets and meteors if visible.
